Psalm 23- Part #8 - Rod&Staff(Sunday service)
Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
1The Lord is my shepherd, I shall lack nothing. 2He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3He restores my Soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake, 4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6Surly goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
*`Rod` represents the authority of God& power of his word.
In David’s day there was comfort in seeing the rod in the shepherd’s hands.
- The `ROD`-can be seen as God’s word. A protection from the wild &crazy ideas of the world.
- The `Rod` is most often used for correcting & training the sheep.
- Shepherd's Rod is used to examine and count the sheep. (Ezekiel 20:37)
Psalm 139:23, 24 "Search me, O God, and know my… - The Shepherd's Rod is a tool of protection for both himself and the sheep.
- The "staff" is a symbol of the concern a Shepherd has for his sheep.
It is a symbol of the Spirit of God.- Staff is a support & comfort.
- Staff is used to draw sheep together
- Staff is used to catch individual sheep for close examination.
- Staff is used for guiding sheep gently. John 16:13
- Staff is used to express closeness with a sheep.
- Staff is used to pull out a sheep that has fallen into a mess/hole
