Psalm 23- Part#3

1The Lord is my shepherd, I shall lack nothing. 2He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3He restores my Soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake, 4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rid and your staff, they comfort me. 5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6Surly goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

What's this??-"He makes me lie down in green pastures!"

Some Sheep & Shepherd background.......

  1. It as a near impossible thing to get a sheep to lie down unless..
    4 conditions are met:
    1. Sheep are fearful by nature so will refuse to lie down until fear is gone.
    2. Sheep will not lie down unless they are free from trouble with other sheep.
    3. Sheep will not lie down while being greatly tormented by insects.
    4. Sheep will not lie down while still hungry.
Sheep must be free from fear, social trouble, frustration & hunger
  2. It is only the Shepherd himself who can provide rest from these 4 troubles.

A flock that is fearful, socially stressed, irritated, hungry never does well.

Only the good Shepherd can lead his sheep to green pastures.
